A. L. Lee received an MFA in screenwriting from Columbia University. Her screenplay The Legend of Pig-Eye, which is an adaptation of the short story with the same title by Rick Bass, won Best Screenplay in Film Division Screenwriting Competition.

Her short film the good boy has been selected by over 70 film festivals and has won many awards including Best Film, Best Foreign Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

A. L. Lee wrote and directed Artemis & the Astronaut. Major sponsors included NYSCA (New York State Council on the Arts), IFP (Independent Film Projects), and International Press. Artemis & the Astronaut has been selected to over 30 film festivals. It has won Best Film at three festivals and Best Actor awards at three festivals for Lynn Cohen.

 She originally trained as a violinist at the Eastman School of Music and the New England Conservatory.

She lives in New York City with her husband, two sons, and two cats.
